Austin Resident Helps Fight Foreclosure
As the government launched various programs to curb the increasingly growing tide of foreclosures for sale, one woman has decided to use her own experience to help the other troubled borrowers.
Foreclosure survivor Donna Johnson recalled how frightened she was during the time when she almost lost her home to foreclosure. After losing her job suddenly and with very little money in the bank, it was difficult for the Austin local to keep up with her mortgage payments.
Today, as she observed police officers and movers take out things from another family’s home, Johnson realizes that she needs to impart what she learned from her ordeal in order to prevent other families from suffering the similar fate.
According to Johnson, the following will help distressed homeowners avoid foreclosure:
- Spend wisely – if you cannot afford a luxury item, then do not buy it. Otherwise you will be digging yourself deeper into debt until you no longer have the means to pay your mortgage dues.
- Prioritize – learn which obligation is more important.
- Save – there is nothing better than having a small nest egg which you can tap in cases of emergency.
- Extra Income – if you are tired of making ends meet, it would be best if you look for additional sources of income. There are actually a lot of job opportunities available especially over the internet and you will just have to be patient with your search.
- Communicate – troubled borrowers should never shy away from their lenders especially since their lenders are the best people to talk to in order to manage mortgage payment difficulties.
With these helpful tips, Johnson is hoping that many distressed homeowners will be able to work through their mortgage problems and find a solution that will allow them to stay in their homes – like she was able to do.
